Check out some of the events at the JP Branch Library in July.

  • ESL Conversation Group — Thursdays at 6 p.m. No meetings until Aug. 2.
  • Kids Club — Wednesdays, at 4 p.m. Stories and crafts for children ages 7 and older. Groups cannot be accommodated. Please pre-register.
  • Reading Readiness — Wednesdays, July 11, Aug. 15, 22, 29 at 10:30 a.m. Stories and songs lead to reading fun for children ages 18-36 months. Please sign up in advance.
  • Catch the Beat Summer Reading Club — Wednesdays at 4 p.m. July 11, ExCL drum-making workshop; Aug. 15, Make a birdhouse; Aug. 22, Musical folktales; Aug. 29, Ice cream sundae party. Please sign up in advance. Read on »

Library Expansion/Renovation Update

An update you on some great news regarding the JP Library renovation/expansion project. The City Council passed the FY08 budget last week (which runs from July 1, 2007 - June 30, 2008). Part of the budget is the capital projects budget, which authorizes money for capital projects in the next five years.

Due to the continued support and efforts of Councilor Tobin, the Friends of the JP Library, and library patrons in the JP community, the JP library project received a lot of attention this budget cycle. Because of all of the calls and letters to City Councilors and the Mayor requesting funding for the project, we were successful in ensuring that the project will continue to go forward.

Book sale a success!

Many thanks to those of you who helped with Friends book sale, including the planning, organizing, phone calling, sorting, set up, selling, clean-up, etc. The Book Sale raised $1150 for the Jamaica Plain Branch Library!

We Need Your Help!

Dear JP Branch Library Patrons:

The City of Boston’s budget for next year is being finalized by the Mayor and the City Councilors. Right now WE NEED YOUR HELP to obtain funding to renovate and expand our branch library. Our City Councilor John Tobin is an avid supporter and is encouraging his colleagues on the Council to support the project.

WE NEED YOU TO ASK OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS TO FUND THE MASTER PLAN TO RENOVATE AND EXPAND OUR LIBRARY BUILDING. PLEASE WRITE OR EMAIL THE FOUR AT-LARGE CITY COUNCILORS AND THE MAYOR IN THE NEXT TWO WEEKS. Read on »


JP Branch Renovation and Expansion Update (March 2007)

Dear Friends:

Here is the latest update on our goal of achieving a major renovation and expansion of the library building.

The JP Branch Library Task Force appointed by Mayor Menino has agreed on a master plan proposal for renovating and expanding the branch. A final report outlining the plan is available for review and comments by the public at the library and on the Boston Public Library’s website.
