JP Branch Library Events Through Year End
- Spanish Study group – Mondays at 4:30 p.m. Practice your Spanish conversational skills in a friendly atmosphere. Participants should be able to read a Spanish language newspaper.
- Boston Cares Volunteer Orientation – Thursday, November 15 at 6 p.m. This program cover the variety of programs offered by Boston Cares and is an opportunity for new members to meet.
- ESL Conversation Group – Tuesdays 10 a.m. to noon, and Thursdays at 6 p.m.
- Kids Club — Wednesdays, at 4 p.m. Stories and crafts for children ages 7 and older. Groups cannot be accommodated. Please pre-register.
- Preschool Storyhour – Tuesdays, through Oct. 30 at 10:30 a.m. Stories, fingerplays and crafts for children ages 2-5. Pre-registration is required.
- Baby Lapsit — Wednesdays, through Oct. 31 at 10:30 a.m. Songs, rhymes and stories for children ages 6-18 months. Pre-registration is required.
- Outta the Basement — On display indefinitely during library hours. Posters of the Jamaica Plain Branch’s past.
- Peep, and the Big, Wide World’s Science Club – Thursdays through Oct. 25 at 4 p.m. Children ages 3-5 and their caregivers are invited to join a hands-on science program inspired by WGBH’s popular television show, Peep and the Big, Wide World. Participants will receive free books and take home activities, as well as preview short Peep and the Big, Wide World segments. Pre-registration is required.
- JP Bookworms — Tuesdays at 4 p.m. A Book Discussion for girls in the 4th to 6th grades. Oct. 23, Theodosia and the Serpents of Chaos by R.L. LaFevers; Nov. 20, Sahara Special by Esme Raji Codell.
- Halloween Celebration — Wednesday, Oct. 24 at 4 p.m. Spooky stories, crafts and treats for children 6 and older.
- Autumn Leaves Storytime — Monday, Oct. 29 at 10:30 a.m. Children ages 3-5 are invited for stories and activities with staff from the Boston Nature Center.
- Halloween Celebration — Tuesday, Oct. 30 at 10:30 a.m. Spooky stories, crafts and treats for children ages 2 to 5.
- Milk, Cookies and Bedtime Stories — Thursdays, at 6:30 p.m. for children ages 2-5. Nov. 1, Bear’s Bedtime. Dec. 6, Cozy Blankets; Jan. 3, It’s Snowing.
- A Lakota Perspective on Thanksgiving -- Thursday, Nov. 1, at 6:30 p.m. Sterling Hollow Horn of the North American Indian Center of Boston will talk about the Seven Rites of the Sundance.
- Reading Readiness — Tuesdays, Nov. 6 through Dec. 11, at 10:30 a.m. Children ages 2-5 will explore pre-reading concepts through stories, music and crafts. Ellen Hoffman performs on Nov. 13 and Dec. 4. Pre-registration is required.
- Toddler Storytime -- Wednesdays, Nov. 7 through Dec. 12 at 10:30 a.m. Stories, fingerplays and crafts for children ages 18-36 months. Pre-registration is required.
- Adult Book Discussion — Thursdays at 7 p.m. Nov. 8, The Measure of a Man: A Spiritual Autobiography by Sidney Poitier.
- Duo Vireo Performs — Thursday, Nov. 8 at 6:30 p.m. Joe Moffet on trumpet and Adam Dotson on euphonium are joined by Tom Arabia on sax and Ruth Lepson, a poet.
- Chanukah Songs — Saturday, Dec. 1 at 11 a.m. Workmen’s Circle Music Director Lisa Gallatin leads a concert and singalong of songs of freedom and hope in Yiddish and Hebrew.
- Wintertime Holiday Open House – Thursday, Dec. 13 at 6 p.m. Food, crafts and fun. At 7 p.m., Rosalita’s Puppets present Winter Wonderland. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Jamaica Plain branch library.
